Ditta Rohmann is a highly versatile cellist renowned for captivating performances ranging from solo recitals in prestigious concert halls to collaborations with world-music ensembles, dance companies, and theatrical productions.
She studied at the New England Conservatory with Suren Bagratuni, the Franz Liszt Music Academy with Miklós Perényi, and the Music Academy Basel with Iván Monighetti, while also drawing inspiration from masterclasses with Boris Pergamenschikow, Jean-Guihen Queyras, András Schiff, György Kurtág, and Steven Isserlis. In 2012, she won a prize at the prestigious Leipzig Bach Competition. Her repertoire spans Baroque to contemporary music and improvisation, with close collaborations alongside composers such as Péter Eötvös and Sofia Gubaidulina.
Among her five solo albums, her interpretation of J.S. Bach's Cello Suites—praised by Gramophone as "definitive"—showcases her interest in historical performance practice, along with recordings featuring her 5-string cello. She is a regular participant at the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove, UK, which she considers her musical family.
Professor Rohmann currently teaches at the University of Lucerne and has served as head of the cello department at the Liszt Academy in Budapest since 2020. In her masterclasses, she incorporates Soundpainting as a tool for improvisation and live composition, taking a holistic approach to nurturing a healthy and creative new generation of artists.
